"Small Potatoes," oil on panel, 5" x 8", 2007

   Painting is about discovery.
I 'discovered' these forgotten spuds in the veggie basket one afternoon  and commenced to work from them for the next few months as they struggled to reproduce.

The first studies fell into the pleinair discipline of
'site specific time sensitive' painting. Studies were completed in less than three hours at a time. Later after a comprehensive understanding of the subject matter was obtained  larger, compositionally complex, abstract drawings and mixed media artworks were created.

Sea Anemone
"Sea Anemone," oil on panel, 6" x 8", 2009

Morning light discovered these anemones at a beach-side campsite in San Carlos, Mexico – revealing a fascinating study of shape, form, light, edges and subtle complementary color.
   Treasures everywhere waiting for discovery...

The pleinair study is often the beginning of an experience which lasts much longer than the initial time expenditure. It may begin as the desire to capture a precious moment in time, but its potential is everlasting (sustainable) and dynamic (multi - dimensional).
